I visited Mauritius and stayed with, among others LUX Grand Gaube Resort to experience what it is like to be pampered here. In this series of articles I will make some comparisons between the different hotels on the island so that you can make an informed choice if you are planning to travel to Mauritius. I try to answer the following questions, among others:
- Which hotels are affordable, and which are not?
- Which hotel gives you the most value for your money?
- Which hotel is the most exclusive or luxurious?
- For which type of traveler is the hotel best suited?
To start with, LUX Grand Gaube Resort does not fall into the affordable category, but it doesn't have to. They focus on a luxurious and exclusive experience, and they do that very well! In my opinion, it is worth the extra cost and I will explain why in this article.

About LUX Grand Gaube Resort
LUX Grand Gaube, located in the northeast of Mauritius, is a beautiful resort full of peace and luxury. A beach that feels private
The photo below says more than a thousand words. The sand is beautifully white, soft and not unimportant; the beach is over 200 meters long with enough beds and umbrellas, so it never feels really busy. So not many people. It all contributes to the luxurious and exclusive experience.
Good to Know: beaches in Mauritius are in principle never private and must be publicly accessible to everyone (public). However, given the location of the resort, the beach is difficult to reach. In practice you will see that there will be almost only hotel guests here.
Layout
LUX Grand Gaube is not necessarily a very large resort. Of course it has everything to be a full-fledged resort, but they are clearly not targeting the masses here. Everything is easily accessible on foot and the beach or restaurants are never far away. From the air you can clearly see that much thought has been put into the layout of the resort.

Very spacious rooms
I'm actually doing a disservice to the space if I simply call it a room. It felt more like an apartment. There is a hall, a walk-in closet and a large separate room where you will find a shower, bath and toilet, but which are not directly connected to each other. You also have your own patio where you can relax. Take a moment to look at the photos and perhaps even better, watch the videos where I show you all the details of the room!
Some things that immediately struck me were, for example, that all the drawers and the refrigerator were well stocked. You will find the well-known coffee and supplies in most resorts. But the fact that there are also various bottles of wine, champagne, gin and rum in your room, including accompanying glasses, mixer and ingredients to make your own cocktails, was certainly new to me.
The spacious king-size bed looks directly out to sea. I loved waking up and enjoying the view without having to get out of bed.

Other notable features
I have already experienced many beautiful hotels and resorts in my life, for which I am of course extremely grateful. You will find tennis courts and beautifully appointed spas at most resorts, so I will not go into detail about that now. However, what I have never seen before is a full-fledged cinema in a resort. Films are played here every day at fixed times and they are used a lot. In any case, I thought it was a nice and original addition.

LUX Grand Gaube resort exudes romance. You notice this immediately when you enter. In the evening, they take it even further. The interior and color have been carefully considered, in combination with atmospheric lighting, which makes you feel like you are in paradise.
Would you like to take that a step further? Then you can also have a romantic dinner with your partner, for example on the beach (see the photo below). In any case, at LUX Grand Gaube they spare no expense to provide you with a unique, romantic evening.
INTI: The best rated restaurant in Mauritius
Every luxury hotel or resort is always trying to convince guests (or potential guests) of their great restaurants. This is no different at LUX Grand Gaube, but they actually have an ace up their sleeve here. INTI is the best rated restaurant of the island and is also accessible to guests who are not staying at LUX Grand Gaube.
The INTI restaurant is Peruvian Fusion. The real Peruvian Pisco Sour cocktail could of course not be missing from dinner. Of course, it's always difficult to judge food through a photo, but I assure you that everyone who sat at our table made 'ooh, aah, and mmmmm' sounds with every course.
No standard flavors, but very unique dishes prepared by a Peruvian chef who clearly knows his trade.

Obviously I cannot map all the features and details of a resort. However, I can share with you from my own experience how I experienced my stay here.
I can summarize LUX Grand Gaube as follows:
- A paradise with adult-only parts;
- 5 stars+;
- Beautifully maintained gardens;

- Possibly the largest standard room I have ever seen!
